Today, Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra filled Sing’s and the whole nation’s dream by winning India’s first-ever gold medal in the Olympics in the athletics category.

Besides Hockey, this is India’s second gold medal in the history of the Olympics. Before Neeraj, Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal in shooting in Beijing Olympics 2008. So, Neeraj is only the second Indian to win an individual gold in the Olympics event. Wrestler Bajrang Punia has also won his bronze medal match in his category. This has made India’s medal count to 7 with 1 gold, 2 silvers, and 4 bronze medals. This is India’s finest performance in Olympics. Before Tokyo Olympics, India won 7 medals in the London Olympics in 2012. Golfer Aditi Ashok finished finals at 4th place which is best in golf history of India though it wasn’t enough to win a medal.

Neeraj started with 87.03 m in his first attempt. His first throw made it clear that India is going to win a medal here but everyone was waiting for the confirmation of the color. His second attempt went 87.58 m which ensured India’s first gold in Athletics. Happiness could be seen on the face of Neeraj as he started crying.
