Virat’s RCB Finally Broke The Losing Streak By Beating Mumbai Indians By 54 Runs!
Indian Premier League 2021: Virat’s RCB Finally Broke The Losing Streak By Beating Mumbai Indians By 54 Runs!
Royal Challengers Bangalore on Blockbuster Sunday manages to win their 6th match as they defeated Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians by 54 runs. It was the second match of the doubleheader Sunday where RCB played with Mumbai Indians at Dubai International Stadium.
Earlier at the toss time, it was Rohit Sharma whose luck worked. MI elected to bowl first on an obvious chasing stadium. Mumbai pacers started well. Jasprit Bumrah strike in his first over and removed in form batsman Devdutt Padikkal. But then Skipper Virat Kohli and young batsman Srikar Bharat put a commanding partnership of 68 runs for the second wicket.
Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar finally broke the partnership. He got the wicket of S Bharat. The right-hand batsman from RCB had hit a six before but his celebration after that six didn’t get continued. Now it was time for Glenn Maxwell to come. He and Kohli put another partnership of 51 runs for 3rd wicket.
In between Virat completed his 42nd half-century in Indian Premier League history. He also completed his 10,000 international runs in the T-20 format of the game. Remind that he is the first Indian batsman to do so. Though before him, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, and David Warner have achieved this feat.
Virat couldn’t add much run to his inning and fell shortly after completing his fifty. Adam Milne got his wicket. But on the other hand, Glenn Maxwell was in an indifferent mood. He completed his half-century as well. AB De Villers from the other end was supporting him too.
It was looking that RCB will manage to get 180 on the board but Boom! Boom! Bumrah changed everything in his last over of the spell. In the 19th over of the match, Rohit handed over the bowl to Bumrah. He didn’t disappoint his team and got two big fishes in a single over. He got back-to-back wickets of Maxwell and De Villiers.
In 20 overs a strong-looking RCB’s lineup could make 165. Mumbai Indians responded strongly. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock added 51 runs for the first wicket. It seemed that RCB is 10-15 runs short. Good going Mumbai fell into the trap of spin-pair of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and part-time off-spinner Glenn Maxwell. Both got 2-2 wickets and turned the game.
Purple cap holder Harshal Patel put out the final feather from the hat and dismissed the Mumbai innings by taking a hat-trick. He got the big wickets of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Rahul Chahar in 3 bowls and became the 18th bowler to pick a hat-trick in IPL. With the help of bowlers, RCB bowled out MI on just 111. They didn’t even play their 20 overs.
With this win, RCB has strengthened their spot in the top four with 6 wins in 10 matches. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have slipped to 7th position which is a worrying sign for them. At the post-match conference, Glenn Maxwell was awarded the man of the match award for his all-around performance with the bat and ball.
