It was a fine day for Kolkata as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to move more closer to the playoffs. Three teams have already qualified for the playoffs and the fourth team is not decided yet. The port is open for Kolkata, Rajasthan, and Mumbai. Among these teams, KKR has the best chance to make it to the top 4.

On the double-header Sunday, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad who won the toss and decided to bat first. KKR’s skipper Eoin Morgan was looking happy with the SRH’s decision as he also wanted to bowl first. The pitch was not that flat and it was promised that the pitch will offer a bit of swing for the fast bowlers in the initial overs with the new ball.

As expected SRH didn’t start well. New Zealand pacer Tim Southee strike in the first over and removed Wriddiman Saha. Southee was enjoying the swing. Young pacer Shivam Mavi got the second breakthrough of SRH’s innings. He got the big wicket of dangerous Jason Roy. At the end of power play, SRH was reduced to 34 for 2.

SRH skipper Kane Williamson was looking in good touch but got out through a runout from Shakib Al Hasan. Kane made 26 from 21 balls with 4 fours. Sunrisers weren’t able to make any partnership. Shakib strike again this time as a bowler and got the wicket of Abhishek Sharma. On the other end, Priyam Gard tried to get set on the pitch but mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy scappled his wicket. He made 21 runs from 31 balls.

Chakravarthy sent West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder cheaply and took his second wicket. On the other end, Abdul Samad played some cracking shots. Tim Southee made Samad silent by sending him back. Samad made 25 on 18 balls with 3 sixes in it. No other Hyderabad batsmen are able to score even 10. The whole SRH innings got ended on 118 for 8 in their 20 overs.

From KKR, Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Southee, and Shivam Mavi took 2-2 wickets each. Shakib scappled one wicket. Chasing a small target, KKR didn’t start that well. They lost the wicket of in-form batsman Venkatesh Iyer in the 5th over. Jason Holder took his wicket. But on the other end, Shubman Gill was playing his shots. Rashid Khan brought the second breakthrough for SRH. He removed Rahul Tripathy.

KKR was at the same stage as SRH. But then Nitish Rana and Gill added crucial runs for the 3rd wicket partnership. In between Shubman reached his half-century. Siddarth Kaul ended the partnership by getting the wicket of Gill. He made 57 runs on 51 balls with 10 fours. In the end, Dinesh Karthik and Skipper Morgan took KKR to the winning mark. With this win, KKR has made its position strong for the 4th spot.

From SRH, Jason Holder got 2 wickets. Rashid and Siddarth got 1-1 wickets each. SRH has already got out from the tournament but they are failing to end it in a good node. Shubman Gill was the adjusted man of the match.
