Indian Premier League 2021: Poor Display Of Batting From RCB! KKR Won By 9 Wickets And Has Kept The Hopes Alive!
With the help of fine bowling from Mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy and West Indian All-rounder, Andre Russell, Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday beat Royal Challengers Bangalore easily by 9 wickets. Both bowlers took 3-3 wickets that thrashed RCB’s batting order.
Before that Royal Challenger Bangalore’s skipper, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Though his decision was right the batsmen proved it wrong including the skipper himself. RCB lost their skipper in the second when P Krishna found Virat in the front of stumps. Then Devdutt Padikkal played some beautiful shots and placed a small partnership of 31 runs with Srikar Bharat. Lockie Ferguson got the wicket of inform Padikkal on the last ball of the powerplay.
In six overs, RCB made 41 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. Still, it was a decent start at this tough pitch of Abu Dhabi. But then RCB’s batsmen fell like bricks of the card. Pair of Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell took wickets in regular intervals to reduce RCB from 50 for 2 to 66 for 7. Star players like AB De Villiers and Glen Maxwell failed to save the red army collapse. In the end with help of some shots from Harshal Patel, RCB managed to reach 92 and lost all 10 wickets with one over left.
From KKR, besides Varun and Russell, Lockie Ferguson took 2 wickets and P Krishna got 1 wicket. One batsman Kyle Jamieson got run-out. In response, Kolkata Knight Riders openers proved it a cakewalk. Opening pair of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer added 82 runs for the first wicket and made the way easier. The only wicket for KKR was of Shubman Gill who threw his wicket to Yuzvendra Chahal. KKR got no other harm and they managed to reach the small target of 93 in just 10 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy was awarded the man of the match. With this win, KKR has now 3 wins in 8 matches and they are at 5th position in the points table. They have to win the remaining games to book a spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, it was RCB’s third loss in the tournament. They are still in 3rd position with six matches remaining.
