Indian Premier League 2021: Mumbai Indians Thrashed Rajasthan Royals By 8 Wickets To Keep Hopes Of Playoffs Alive!

A fine display of bowling has helped Mumbai Indians to beat Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets. With this win, Mumbai Indians have kept their hopes alive for the playoffs. Whereas Rajasthan Royals has nearly got out of the race of top 4. The match was played in Sharjah Cricket Stadium where Rajasthan came to bat and scored just 90. Mumbai chased the target easily by losing 2 wickets.

Before that, Mumbai Indians won the toss and asked the Royals to bat first. The small

stadium of Sharjah was known as the heaven of batsmen in the year 2020 but this year bowlers have enjoyed the game more at this stadium. Royals started decently. They scored 27 runs in the first three overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was playing his shots before Nathan Coulter Nile caught him in the hands of Ishan Kishan. 

After that in-form batsman, Ewin Lewis played some cracking shots and took Royals to 41. But fell off a short ball which didn’t bounce as Lewis expected. Jasprit Bumrah got his wicket as he was LBW. Lewis made 24 from 19 balls with 3 fours and a six. At the end of the power play, the Royals were 41 for 2. Jayant Yadav who was playing his match of UAE leg found another breakthrough and the big one. He sent Rajasthan’s skipper Sanju Samson cheaply just after the powerplay. 

No batsmen were then able to get settled on the crease. Royals kept losing wickets in regular intervals. From 41 for 2 to 50 for 5. Rahul Tewatia and David Miller added some runs. But they couldn’t do much. In the end, the playing XI of RR could only make 90 runs after losing 9 wickets. Thanks to Mustifizur Rehman who hit a six in the last over so that RR could reach 90. 

From Mumbai Indians, Nathan Coulter Nile star with ball. He scappled 4 wickets by giving just 14 runs. James Neesham also got 3 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah got 2 wickets. This was RR’s third-lowest score in the Indian Premier League. 

Well, Mumbai didn’t have to do much. But the Royals needed a wicket. Rohit Sharma started the innings with a bang. He reached 22 runs in just 13 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four. Chetan Sakariya sent Sharma back to the dugout. But then Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav added some runs and took MI above 50. Mustifizur Rehman strike in the last over of powerplay as he got the wicket Surya Kumar Yadav. Mumbai was 56 for 2 at the end of pp. on the other hand, Ishan Kishan took Mumbai to the target single-handedly. He completed his half-century as well. 

Mumbai made 94 runs in just 8.2 overs. With this win, Mumbai has not only kept the hopes alive but also have improved their net run rate. On the other end, all the hopes of the Royals have nearly finished. Mathematically they can reach the playoffs though. Nathan Coulter Nile was adjusted as the man of the match in the end.
