Indian Premier League 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders Knocked Royal Challengers Bangalore Out Of IPL Winning By 4 Wickets!
A huge day of disappointment for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and its fans as again after a prominent start Virat and his team couldn’t make its first title for RCB. Several hearts broke yesterday as Kolkata Knight Riders beat RCB by 4 wickets to go one step ahead in the playoffs. The match was played at Sharjah International Stadium.
Before that, it was Virat Kohli who won the toss and decided to bat first. The opening pair of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal gave a fine start to the Royals. In the first 5 overs, RCB made 49 runs for no loss. Lockie Ferguson broke the partnership and bowled Padikkal out. The new man Srikar Bharat who displayed a fine batting performance in the previous match couldn’t do much this time and got out. West Indian all-rounder Sunil Narine got his wicket.
Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell tried to add some runs but the skipper fell on Narine’s ball and got clean bowled. It was Sunil’s second wicket of the match and this time a big one. Virat got out on 39 on 33 balls with 5 fours. Ab De Villiers couldn’t get his form in this match as well and departed soon. It was again Narine with his beautiful spell.
Sunil Narine got his fourth wicket in the form of Glenn Maxwell. In the end, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dan Christian, and Harshal Patel added few runs and took RCB to 138 in 20 overs. Without a doubt, Sunil Narine was the star with the ball from KKR. He scappled 4 wickets by giving just 21 runs in 4 overs. Lockie Ferguson also got 2 wickets.
Narine shattered the top and middle order of RCB which resulted in KKR defending a low total. In response, KKR started decently. Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill took Knight Riders to 41 in just 5 overs. But the purple cap holder and highest wicket-taker ever in a single season of IPL, Harshal Patel removed Shubman Gill. Now it was time for Yuzvendra Chahal to grab some wickets.
He sent the new man Rahul Tripathi back to the dugout cheaply. Harshal strike again and got the big wicket of in-form V Iyer. With this wicket, KKR was reduced to 79 for 3. It raised some hopes for the RCB army. But then Nitish Rana played a sincere knock and took KKR above 100. He added 31 runs with Sunil Narine for the 4th wicket. Yuzi Chahal got rid of Nitish Rana. He made 23 runs from 25 balls with 1 four and 1 six.
But on the other end, Sunil Narine changed the whole course of the match and brought KKR back to the game. He played a blasted inning of 26 runs from 15 balls with 3 sixes in it. Mohammad Siraj found his wicket. But it was too late for the RCB to react. Siraj also got the wicket of Dinesh Karthik.
In the end, Skipper Eoin Morgon and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took KKR over the winning line. The disappointment on the face of Virat could be seen clearly. His bowlers tried their best but batsmen were needed to add more runs. Harshal Patel, Yuzi Chahal, and Mohammad Siraj scappled 2-2 wickets each. Sunil Narine adjusted the man of the match.
With this win, KKR will face Delhi Capitals in the next eliminator which will be played on 13th October. For Royal Challengers Bangalore it was a fabulous season. In the first leg, the team won 4 consecutive matches and shocked everyone. In the second leg, they got qualified with 18 points. The tag of chokers is still on Royal Challengers. We will see if the new captain can remove this tag or not as it was RCB’s last match under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.
Virat has now stepped down as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore. With this, an era of skipper Virat came to end. In 140 matches he captained RCB, in which the team won 66, lost 70, and 4 remained with no results. He took RCB to the finals in 2016 IPL but they ended as runner’s up.
