India Vs England: First Day Belonged To The Tourist. India Restricted England To 183!
Men in blue have started the 5 matches test series with a bang on the very first day of the first test match. With the fine display of bowling from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, the whole English team got all-out on 183. Bumrah got 4 wickets and Shami got 3 English men.
Earlier it was English captain Joe Root who won the toss and elected to bat first. England is playing with 5 seamers thus Root’s decision to bat first surprised all. Though it was just a toss that went in favor of the Britishers. Jasprit Bumrah banged in the third ball of the first over of England’s innings. He sent opener Rory Burns back to the dug-out on zero. Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley put a partnership of 42 but Mohammad Shami sent Sibley back to the pavilion just before the lunch.
After Lunch, Mohammad Siraj got his first wicket in England as he caught Zak Crawley behind the stumps. Then, English Skipper Joe Root set up a 72-runs stand for the third wicket with Jonny Bairstow which was the only 50 or more than 50 runs stand for England. Shami caught Bairstow just before tea and at the time session end was called.
In the same over after tea, Shami got another breakthrough as he got the wicket of Dan Lawrence. On the other hand, Joe Root completed his half-century and also made the record of becoming the highest run-getter for England in international cricket in history. He surpassed Sir Alastair Cook.
But Root couldn’t convert his innings into a big one and got LBW. Shardul Thakur took his wicket. Thakur gave another blow to England in the same over by sending Ollie Robinson back to the pavilion. Bumrah got his second as he sent Jos Butler on a duck. Though Sam Curran tried to pull of England’s innings he didn’t get any support from the other end. Bumrah got back-to-back wickets of Stuart Broad and James Anderson to end the host’s innings.
In response, India has to play 13 over and it was going to be tough. The match time was extended to complete the 90 overs in a day. But Indian openers didn’t throw their wickets and played the hour successfully. As expected, KL Rahul opened the innings with Rohit Sharma.
Day 2 will be a crucial and match-defining day for both teams. India will try to take a big lead over the hosts and on the other side, England will try to all 10 wickets as soon as possible. See you on Day 2 which will be live on the Sony Ten network from 2:30 pm IST.
