India Vs England 2nd Test Day 2: KL Rahul’s Unbeaten Ton Put India On Driving Seat!
We have to say this ‘Kamal Lajawab Rahul’ what an innings from KL Rahul and it has come on the historic Lords Ground. He is the same guy who was struggling at the 2018 India tour of England and now it seems he loves to play here. India ended day 1 with 276 runs on the board with the loss of 3 wickets.
It was again England’s skipper Joe Root who won the toss and decided to bowl first on the grassy pitch of Lords. England made three changes to their squad. Mark Wood gets the chance to play in absence of Stuart Broad. Moeen Ali is also added to the squad. Haseeb Hamid makes his debut.
Indian openers once again started brilliantly. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put together a partnership of 126 runs which is the highest and only hundred run opening partnership for India in the last ten years in tests in SENA countries. SENA stands for South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia.
On the one hand, Rohit Sharma was taking charge of English bowlers and on the other hand, Rahul looked patient with the bat. England bowlers once again looked restless against this opening pair. Though Sharma once again failed to convert his fifty into a big hundred. The right-hand batsman got bowled by a fabulous delivery from James Anderson. He made a fine 83 with 11 fours and a six.
Anderson struck again as he sent Cheteswar Pujara back to the pavilion. Pujara once again failed to score big. He got out on 9. Once again it was looking that India will repeat their mistakes from 1st test. But skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stood strong and put a partnership of 117 runs and take India to a strong position. Though the wait for Virat’s 71st ton will remain to continue as the skipper got out by getting settle at the score of 42. Ollie Robinson got his wicket by catching him in the slips. At the stumps, KL Rahul is unbeaten on 127 along with Ajinkya Rahane who is at 1.
From England, Anderson got two wickets and Robinson got one. Now, the second day will set the stage for both teams. India will be looking to put mammoth on the board. On the other hand, England will try to strike early.
