India Vs England 2nd Day 5: Siraj’s Great Spell Helps India Conquers Lords!
Mohammad Sensational Siraj’s great spell has led the way for India to register a historical win against England at the Lords. India has beaten England in the second test by 151 runs to go 1-0 up in the series. With no doubt, we can say that this bowling attack of India is currently the best in the world. England was given 60 overs to bat with 272 to chase but an Indian pace attack led by Siraj scappled all ten Englishmen as the hosts got all out on 120.
Earlier today India started their day with 181 for 6. It was looking that England bowlers will bowl out the tourists on a small total. With this though, hosts started day 5 with a bang. They got the crucial wicket of Rishabh Pant early and then sent Ishant Sharma back on the team total of 209. India was 8 wickets down and then Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah set up a record partnership of 89 runs for the ninth wicket and took India from 209-8 to 298-8. Mohammad Shami made his second half-century as he remained unbeaten on 56. Bumrah too played his career-best innings of 36.
All the odds were in favor of England. After the end of the 4th day, the hosts were favorites. But Virat and his company know to bounce back. Skipper Virat Kohli declared Indian innings at 298 giving England 60 overs to bat and 272 runs to chase. Indian tail-enders contributed 106 runs which is itself a record. Again, it was looking that India should have given more overs to England. But Indian pacers were thinking something different.
After playing innings of their lives, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami rocked the English top order with the ball. Hosts lost their both openers on a duck. Then the remaining work was completed by Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Siraj. Before tea, Sharma got two important wickets of Haseeb Hamid and Jonny Bairstow. England was four down when they went to tea with Skipper Joe Root still on the crease.
All England’s hopes were on Root but soon after Tea, Jasprit Bumrah banged and took the most crucial wicket of English skipper. Then Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali tried to take England ahead. But it was time for Mohammad Siraj to strike. He got two back-to-back wickets of Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. Bumrah took his second wicket of the match by sending Ollie Robinson back to the dug-out. Siraj took the remaining wickets of Jos Buttler and James Anderson and finished the things for England. The hosts got all out on 120.
This is India’s third win at Lords after 1986 and 2014. Indian Skipper held bowlers responsible for the historic win and said that this Indian team knows to play against Odds. England Skipper Joe Root said that they will bounce back in the remaining games.
