Bumrah expected to miss ODI series against England
Indian fast bowler Jaspril Bumrah is unlikely to return to the playing field with the National Team any time soon. He was released from the test squad last week owing to personal reasons. Now, Bumrah is expected to miss the three-match ODI series against England, starting March 23. The ODI series will be played in a bio secure bubble in Pune.
According to a leading cricket website, the ‘personal reasons’ that saw Bumrah being released from the Test squad are likely to keep him out of the ODI series too. The Indian pacer featured in just two tests against England as he was rested for the second game. Reports suggest that Bumrah’s absence might not affect India much, but being the quality bowler that he is, his presence would have definitely added more value.
He has also been released from the squad for the upcoming fourth and final Test against England beginning in Ahmedabad from March 4. “Jasprit Bumrah made a request to BCCI to be released from India’s squad ahead of the fourth Test owing to personal reasons. Accordingly, the fast bowler has been released, and he will not be available for selection for the fourth Test,” said BCCI in a release.
Bumrah’s unavailability will surely give a chance to try out new players for the entire white-ball leg against England. He is most likely to be replaced by Mohammad Siraj, who also substituted him in the second test. Team India can also call back Umesh Yadav who was added to the squad after passing a fitness test. The latter was the highest wicket-taker for India down under. Reports of the management trying out new combinations in Bumrah’s absence with pacers such as Deepak Chahar, T Natrajan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar are also there.
India has got a 2-1 lead in the four test match series against England till now.
