Since winters are near so dew plays an important role in big stadiums like Dubai. That’s why Australia after winning the toss decided to bowl first keeping in mind that the pitch will play better for batsmen in the second inning. After losing the toss, Sri Lankan openers came to crease.
The opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Parera couldn’t add much for the first wicket. Pat Cummins strike in the 3rd over and removed Nissanka. Then, Kusal Parera and Charith Aslanka built a strong partnership for the second wicket. They both added 63 runs for the 2nd wicket and took Sri Lanka to a better position after a quick breakthrough. Finally, Adam Zampa ended the partnership by taking the wicket of Charith Asalanka. The Sri Lankan batsman made 35 runs from 27 balls with 4 fours and 1 six.
In the 11th over, Mitchell Starc strikes and removed good-looking Kusal Parera. The batsman played a fine knock of 35 from 24 balls with 4 fours and a six. The wicket-keeper batsman failed to convert his start to a big score. At this stage, Sri Lanka was 86 for 3. Avishka Fernando the new man couldn’t take his innings long and get out. Adam Zampa took his wicket, his second in the match.

From Australia, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins took 2-2 wickets. Zampa was economical as well. He gave just 12 runs in 4 overs with 2 wickets. In the first innings, the dew was nowhere in the ground. The ball was gripping and this made it tough for the batsmen to play spinners especially leg spinners.
In response, Australia started well. As expected, the brilliant opening pair of David Warner and Aron Finch added 70 runs for 1st wicket. Sri Lanka needed early wickets but they didn’t get any which made it easy for Australia to chase the target. The dew factor was playing its role now. Wannindu Hasaranga scappled the first wicket of the Australian innings. He sent Kangaroo’s skipper Finch to the dugout. Aron Finch made 37 runs from 23 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Hasaranga strike again and this time he got the wicket of dangerous Glenn Maxwell. Australia was reduced to 80 for 2. This gave Sri Lanka a little hope. But Steve Smith joined hands with David Warner and they both took the team near the chasing figure. They made a partnership of 50 runs for 3rd wicket. Dasun Shanaka took the wicket of Warner but it was too late as Australia was just 25 runs short of the target. The left-handed batsman made fine 65 runs from 42 balls. In this innings, he hit 10 fours. In the end, Marcus Stoinis and Smith took the team above the line.
