Another Day, and another victory for the yellow army. The table-toppers Chennai Super Kings have beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets to become the first team to enter the playoffs. In the match played on Thursday, SRH gave a target of 135 runs which CSK achieved in 19.2 overs by losing 4 wickets. The match was played in Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Earlier yesterday, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to call Sunrisers for batting. The orange didn’t start that well. They lost inform Jason Roy in the 4th over of the game. Josh Hazelwood was the man who dismissed him.
The new man and skipper Kane Williamson tried to add some runs with Wriddhiman Saha but Dwayne Bravo caught Kane in front of stumps and sent him back. The poor form of Williamson continued. SRH lost wickets in regular intervals. Youngsters Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma couldn’t do anything. Wriddhiman Saha was the highest scorer from SRH whose 44 from 46 balls helped SRH to reach above 100. Saha hit 1 four and 2 sixes in his innings.
In the end, with the help of innings from Abdul Samad and Rashid Khan, SRH made 134 runs by losing 7 wickets. Rashid contributed 17 runs while Samad contributed 18 runs. From Chennai Super Kings, Australian pacer Josh Hazelwood strike and took 3 wickets in his 4 overs. Dwayne Bravo was also critical with the ball as he took 2 wickets by just giving 17 runs in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur took 1-1 wickets each.
Sunrisers batsmen failed to read the pace of the pitch thus they missed an opportunity to achieve a big total in this small stadium of Sharjah. But Chennai’s batsmen read the pitch correctly. In response, the CSK opening pair took the game far from the SRH. The pair of Rituraj Gayakwad and Faf Du Plessis contributed 75 runs for the 1st wicket. West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder found the first breakthrough in the 10th over. He sent Gayakwad back who was in good touch. The right-hand batsman played an innings of 45 runs from 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
The new man Moeen Ali and De Plessis added more runs for the 2nd wicket and took CSK over 100. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan bowled Moeen Ali to give CSK a second breakthrough. But it was already late. Jason Holder strike again and sent experienced Suresh Raina back to the pavilion cheaply. In the same over he got the wicket of Faf Du Plessis.
Chennai was reduced to 108 for 4 from 102 for 1. But then Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni took CSK to the winning line. Fans got to see MS Dhoni hitting sixes as he hit 1 six and 1 four. From SRH, only Jason Holder could do much. He took 3 wickets in his spell. Rashid also got one wicket.
CSK’s Josh Hazelwood was awarded the man of the match award for his fine performance with the ball. With this win, CSK has qualified for the playoffs. On the other end, Sunrisers’ journey has come to end in this season. Now, they don’t have any chance to get qualified. But they can ruin someone else party.
