Indian Premier League 2021: Hardik Pandya Helped Mumbai Indians To Beat Punjab Kings By 6 Wickets!!
Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians has finally broken the loose steak by beating Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in match number 42 played on Tuesday. The match was played in Sheikh Zayed Stadium where low-scoring matches become interesting.
Earlier it was Rohit Sharma who won the toss and asked Punjab kings to bat first. Kings started decently. Everyone was amazed to see no Chris Gayle at the opening spot. Punjab again tried new opening pair. Their opening pair of Skipper KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh added 36 runs for the first wicket. Krunal Pandya removed Mandeep in the last over of the powerplay.
The next batsman, Chris Gayle didn’t do much and fell early in the very next over. His compatriot, Kieron Pollard got Gayle’s wicket. After getting out, Gayle and Pollard shared some weird and funny actions with each other. Punjab went into huge trouble when their captain got out. Again, it was Pollard who got the crucial wicket of in-form KL Rahul. The kings were 41 for 3. The new man, Nicholas Pooran couldn’t help Punjab much but increased the tensions in the kings’ camp.
Jasprit Bumrah sent Pooran back. This wicket reduced Punjab Kings to 48 for 4. Then, South African batsmen, Aiden Markram and Deepak Hooda built a strong partnership and took Kings above 100. They added 61 runs for the 5th wicket. But Rahul Chahar broke the chain after he bowled Markram on googly. Aiden was the highest scorer for Punjab as he made 42 runs on just 29 balls with 6 fours. Hooda alone tried a bit but didn’t get any support.
In their given 20 overs, Punjab Kings could make only 135 runs. From Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard was the star with the bowl as he got 2 wickets in 2 overs and giving just 8 runs. Bumrah also got 2 wickets. Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar got 1-1 wickets each.
In response, Punjab bowlers ensured some early breakthroughs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi got the big wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 4th over. The young spinner amazed everyone by taking the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav on the next ball. Yadav got out on 0. Though Ravi missed his hattrick. But the 21-years-old stunned the MI top order.
Quinton De Kock and Saurabh Tiwari fought hard to take Mumbai out of risk. They added 45 runs for 3rd wicket. Mohammad Shami ended the partnership by sending De Kock back to the pavilion. The match was still on for both teams. New man Nathan Ellis who was playing his first match got the wicket of Tiwari. Mi was 91 for 4 at the end of 15 over. Tiwari made crucial 45 runs on 37 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Then the dangerous pair of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard took Mumbai to the winning mark. Pandya played a fine cameo of 40 runs on 30 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
From Punjab, Ravi Bishnoi was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets in his 4 overs spell. Mohammad Shami was very expensive. His figure was 42 for 1 in 4 overs. Nathan Ellis got 1 wicket too. In the end, Kieron Pollard has adjusted the man of the match for his all-around performance.
