Mumbai Indians is the team with the most winning IPL stats and on the 24th of September 2021, they had to face the equally sturdier team, KKR. If we would have tried to speculate then the winner of this match would have been hard to tell but along with time, the match had to proceed and we have our winner of the 34th match of IPL 2021, KKR.
MI set a great target!
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and let Mumbai Indians give them a target to chase. Mumbai Indians’ openers were Quinton de Kock and the captain himself Rohit Sharma. Both of these exhibited a great partnership on the pitch of Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Rohit Sharma contributed 33 runs to the building up of the team score and hit 4 fours, and on the 2nd ball of 9th over he was caught out by Shubhman Gill and the bowler was Sunil Narine and the score at that time was 78 for 1.
At the place of Rohit, came Surya Kumar Yadav who was also caught out by Dinesh Karthik on the first ball of 12th over and made 5 runs. Thereafter came Ishan Kishan who made 14 runs, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya added 21 and 12 runs respectively to the total score of the team, also Saurabh and Adam played their part and collected 6 runs together.
That left a target of 155 runs for KKR to overcome. 9 runs were extra.
KKR just played!
As soon as KKR’s first pair landed on the pitch, Shubhman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer, it was quite clear that this chase is going to be a piece of cake for them. Venkatesh hit 4 fours and 6 sixes and made a half-century off 30 balls. Shubhman was bowled by Bumrah on the sixth ball of 2nd over. And then the show-stealer Rahul stepped on the ground and his performance was stunning. Just out of 42 balls he managed to score 74 runs, that’s a very significant boost in the score for KKR. Venkatesh Iyer was also bowled by Bumrah on 11.4 overs.
Only at just 12th over KKR’s total runs were 128 for 2, they were at a stone’s throw from the target.
Eoin Morgan filled the place of Venkatesh, he too was caught out by Boult, and then came Nitish Rana who hit the winning four. And at 15.1 overs KKR’s score was 159.
